I notice there was no mention of socialism. There's a particularly annoying fallacy floating around where theists like to blame stalin/mao/Kim Jong Il's victims on atheism. Apart from being atheist, the one thing that all these regimes have in common is that they were socialist to varying degrees, and most of them were totalitarian. Wouldn't it be more logical to assume that socialism and totalitarianism were behind the deaths of those people rather than making it about religion or lack of?

If you actually research the "anti-religious" regimes you'll see that not one of these societies were anti religious for the purpose of educating and enlightening their populations, they were anti-religious because religion interferes with the worship of the government and state leader. In effect, the dictator becomes the deity, which isn't atheism, it's just a tinpot cult.

Videoes like this betray a bias towards religion (ignoring the trite little quote at the end)- if the person making it wasn't trying to prove an unbalanced point then all of these factors would have been taken into account. But then, that would defeat the purpose of the video which is to present a black and white dichotomy in order to further the author's superficial opinion.

Rant done. Very Happy

I do think that there is a distortion in the truth to that video. But should we abandon any form of ideals if someone has lost there life in the process. I am not not sure that Karl Marx actually propagated and gave specific instructions for the killing of millions of people in the name of socialism. Man <himself or herself or personself if you wanna be PC> is the root cause of any misunderstanding and bad application of rules and guidelines to follow. Atheism is hard to tie down to one thing, there is no real common theme that Atheists have only that there all quite united in there stance not to believe in anything divine or transcendental to the ordinary senses. But i am of firm conclusion that a person can be an extra ordinary human being if the follow strictly the spiritual path, and also i do think that human values can become degraded very quickly if there are no spiritual guidelines taken into consideration. Maybe there was some psychological teaching to religious follows to do good by saying things such as you will go to hell or be reborn as a ghost or an animal if your not a good person or a believer, but still its a middle ground as there is no proof if these things are a reality or not. But as everyone knows mankind is always bound by some law or another and molds his existence around those laws. To varying degrees we can see that where the laws are in place and very strict then there is less crime and its safer. China for example with a zero tolerance to any law breaking not only gives people a fear of breaking the law but also trains the people to respect order, the opposite like in places like Somalia where they are considered lawless states we see a rapid decrease in human values, most people have guns, life is cheap and drug taking is done in the open without any fear of punishment.

So religion while having many laws and do's and don'ts there is something quite simple and profound to found within the context of a religious teaching. That is the simple matter of consciousness and the ability in a person to think and make good conclusions by himself by the application of the spiritual values. This is above any mundane law, its beyond any social system and even transcends the limits of a belief system. I think just a little space and time to develop the mind will see that while harsh and unacceptable the material world with all its atrocities is simply a bizzar and sickening comedy.

You'll also notice that the underlying beliefs and ideology behind despotic regimes are always preposterous. I mean, look at what the Nazis believed - delusions of a pure white race. Stalin tried to make himself a god, as did Kim Jong Il. There is no intellectual justification for genocide, people who commit crimes like these against humanity rely on the credulity of their populace.
